The state Archaeological Museum of Numana is located in a historical building, the property of the local town council, in the old centre of Numana.
To bring the museum into accordance with laws on matters of security, and to allow for restoration, the museum was closed to the public in January, 1997. On view is a numerous selection of burial equipment dating from the second Iron Age and recovered during excavations of the Quagliotti Davanzali estate, conducted by the Archaeological Chief for the Marche between 1970 and 1973. At present the exposition "The Picen Queen and her treasur", located on the lower floor of the Museum, furnishes a view of the archaeological richness found in the Bronze and in the Iron Age necropolis of Old Numana.
Besides presenting some important new finds such as the tomb with circular monument and two chariots dated to the end of the VIth century BC, found in the necropolis "I pini" of Sirolo, the newly restored museum will furnish a complete view of the rich archaeological area of Numana and the Conero zone, showing an extraordinary continuity in human occupation from the Paleolithic Age right up to our time.
