The civic gallery is housed in the central Palazzo Bosdari, which was probably restored to its present form between 1558 and 1561 by Pellegrino Tibaldi (1527-1596).
The civic gallery includes a remarkable series of paintings from XVIth century to XIXth century. A section is also devoted to modern art, with works by Bartolini, Bucci, Campigli, Cassinari, Cucchi, Levi, Sassu, Tamburi, Trubbiani and others.
The collection includes: a series of cartoons and sketches executed and donated by the artist Francesco Podesti (1800 - 1895) of Ancona; some works from the school of Camerino painters Carlo da Camerino (around the end of the fourteenth century- first decade of the fifteenth cebtury) and Arcangelo di Cola (not. 1416 - 1429); a series of paintings by Andrea Lilli (1570 - 1631) and some precious work of Venetian origin and culture, a region to which the Marche area, and Ancona in particular, had strong historical ties. Of fundamental importance are the "Madonna with Child", a panel by Carlo Crivelli (1430/35 c. - 1495 c.), "Sacred Conversation" by Lorenzo Lotto (1480 c. - 1556), "Portrait of Francesco Arsilli" by Sebastiano del Piombo (1485 c. - 1547), "The Circumcision" by Orazio Gentileschi (1563 c. - 1638 o 46), "The Immaculate Conception" e "St. Palazia" by Guercino (1591 - 1666), "Four Saints in ecstasy" e "Angels making music" by Andrea Lilli. Outstanding, above all is " Pala Gozzi" di Tiziano Vecellio (1487/88 - 1576), depicting "The apparition of the Virgin".
