On the Conero mountain there is the Church of S. pietro with attached the Monastery, today almost all transformed in hotel. In the Middle Ages, in facts, the Conero became a hermitage and a religious community place. Benedictines built two Churches: one down, San Benedetto, and the other one on the top, San Pietro.
The abbey got ruined and then was rebuilt by the Camaldolesi which stayed there till 1861. San Pietro still keeps the forms and the style of the ancient structure, white and tiny as the Romanesque wants.
The inside has got the nave with the barrel vault and the cross vault; the columns and the pillars are adorned with decorated capitals. Achantus leaves, pine berries and floral subjects are woven in stones. Under the chorus is hidden the crypt where the relics were preserved. The paths and avenues traced by the Monks are still covered and they gain wonderful excursions.
