Opening times:
From Tuesday to Saturday: 9 am - 1 pm; 3 pm - 7pm; Sunday 4 pm - 7.30 pm.
July and August from Tuesday to Friday: 9 am - 1 pm; 5 pm - 10 pm;
Saturday and Sunday: 5 pm - 10 pm.
Closed: Monday, 1st January, 1st May, 15th August, 25 and 31 December.

Location

Inaugurated in May 1993, the museum is located in premises once hosting the Donatello Middle School.

Description

It offers the possibility to come into close contact with artistic masterpieces, by means of a series of plaster casts and wooden models reproducing some of the finest monuments and statues from Italy and around the world. The blind may see through tactile exploration of the works and schoolchildren will find this museum's collection a precious educational resource. This unique museum, both in a regional and national scale, includes a laboratory for every range of school aimed at developing skills relating to drawing,  decomposition and analysis of the details of various works.

The collection

The museums human form has been proposed as a theme through the choice of works belonging to Hellenic, Roman and Renaissance times. Particulary interesting are the casts of the Nike di Samotracia (3rd-2nd century B.C.); the Venus of Milo (end of 2nd century B.C.), Donatello's David (1386-1466); Michelangelo's Tondo Taddei (1475-1564); Bernini's Bust of Costanza Bonarelli (1635) and the architectural models of San Ciriaco Cathedral in Ancona and St. Peter's in Vaticano.
