The lakes are situated just behind the Portonovo beaches.
The fauna is scanty, and mainly consists of foxes, badgers, hedgehogs, some weasels and nocturnal birds of prey.
The lakes formed a long time ago. They have a mass of ditch reeds, sedges, water-weeds.
